1. Overview

PasteNote is a macOS clipboard history and note utility. It monitors the system clipboard only after you accept the first-launch privacy notice.

PasteNote is designed to process and store your content locally on your Mac. PasteNote does not require an account and does not operate a server that receives your clipboard history or notes.

2. Information processed by PasteNote

Depending on the content types you enable in Settings, PasteNote may locally process:

  • Clipboard text.
  • Clipboard images.
  • File paths, file names, file sizes, file types, and security-scoped bookmark data for files copied through the clipboard.
  • Locally generated content hashes used to identify duplicate content.
  • Notes, note titles, and their creation or update dates.
  • Clipboard history dates and local copy-history records.
  • App preferences, including language, enabled content types, keyboard shortcuts, storage limits, privacy mode, and window preferences.

For files, PasteNote stores a reference to the original file and related metadata. It does not create a separate copy of the entire original file in PasteNote storage. For eligible files, PasteNote may temporarily read the file locally to calculate a content hash. This processing stays on your Mac.

PasteNote may locally identify text that appears sensitive so it can reduce how that content is displayed. This check is performed on the device and is not sent to the developer.

3. Local storage

PasteNote stores clipboard records, notes, metadata, and preferences locally on your Mac using Apple system storage technologies.

Clipboard images are normally converted to PNG and stored as an original image and a thumbnail in PasteNote's local application storage. If an image file cannot be written, image data may remain in the local PasteNote database so the clipboard item is not silently lost.

PasteNote does not currently provide app-level encryption for its local database or image files. Your data may still be protected by macOS account security, FileVault, and filesystem protections if you enable and use those features.

4. Data transmission and sharing

PasteNote does not transmit clipboard content, notes, file references, or local history to the developer or to third parties.

The current version does not include:

  • User accounts.
  • Cloud synchronization.
  • Advertising SDKs.
  • Analytics or behavior-tracking SDKs.
  • Crash-reporting services that upload clipboard or note content.
  • Sale or rental of personal data.

PasteNote uses the open-source KeyboardShortcuts library to register keyboard shortcuts. This library operates locally and is not used by PasteNote to transmit your clipboard or note content.

5. Privacy mode

You can enable Privacy Mode from the PasteNote interface. While Privacy Mode is active, clipboard changes are not added to PasteNote history. Content copied during Privacy Mode is discarded from monitoring state and is not imported later when monitoring resumes.

Privacy Mode does not delete content that was already saved before it was enabled.

6. Retention and deletion

Clipboard history remains on your Mac until:

  • You delete an individual item.
  • You use Clear All History in PasteNote settings.
  • PasteNote removes older history to remain within the storage limit you configured.

Using Clear All History removes PasteNote clipboard database records and locally managed original images and thumbnails. Notes are managed separately and can be deleted from the Notes interface.

PasteNote does not hold a server-side copy of this content, so the developer cannot remotely view, restore, or delete your local clipboard history or notes.

7. External privacy and support pages

When you choose Privacy Policy or Help & Support, PasteNote opens an external webpage in your default browser. PasteNote does not attach clipboard or note content to these links.

These pages are hosted as static files on Cloudflare Pages. When you visit them, Cloudflare may process ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and browser information, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. PasteNote does not use advertising or behavior-tracking scripts on this website.

8. Support email

If you contact , the developer receives the email address, message, and attachments you choose to send. This information is used only to respond to your request, investigate the issue, and maintain necessary support records.

Please do not include passwords, private clipboard content, confidential notes, or files unless they are necessary and you are comfortable sharing them.

9. Children's privacy

PasteNote is a general productivity utility and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Because PasteNote does not operate an account or content server, it does not knowingly collect children's clipboard history or notes.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when PasteNote's features or data practices change. The updated page will show a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be reflected in the app or App Store information when appropriate.
